About
The HIRS Collective (formerly +HIRS+) is a Philadelphia-based queer punk and grindcore group. Founded in 2011 by vocalist Jenna Pup and guitarist Esem, their music is celebrated for its radical, trans-inclusive message, hyper-aggressive sound, and massive lineup of guest collaborators. The band’s music merges elements of hardcore, powerviolence, grindcore, and queercore. Their tracks are often intensely brief and abrasive, serving as a platform to challenge capitalist, misogynist, and anti-trans structures. Rather than traditional song structures, their music operates as a cathartic, punishing expression of survival and empowerment. The group has amassed over 50 releases, spanning singles, splits, and studio albums. A notable trademark of their records is the extensive roster of high-profile artists who contribute to their tracks. They've created collaborations with artists like Laura Jane Grace, Shirley Manson (of Garbage), and Marissa Paternoster (of Screaming Females), and members of My Chemical Romance, Converge, Soul Glo, and Anthony Green
