Formed in 1993 in the suburbs of Orange County during the height of Seattle Grunge and the Epitaph Records punk revival, Ignite has made a career defying convention with against-the-grain music and thought provoking, politically charged lyricism. Much of the melodic hardcore band's music is socially and politically aware, taking account of such issues as environmental concerns and vegetarianism—common topics found in their music like their debut album, A Place Called Home. Ignite also actively supports, and has given proceeds to, organizations such as Earth First, Doctors Without Borders, Sea Shepherd, and Pacific Wildlife. Ignite’s records have distinguished them with complex arrangements, triumphant hooks, and soaring vocals. Their style is based on the typical melodic so-called West Coast hardcore and Melodic Hardcore and they are one of the most important representatives of this style today. They have been described as melodic hardcore with a social and political consciousness.
