About

Located in the Cathedral neighborhood and a prominent landmark on the Regina skyline, Holy Rosary Cathedral is a Romanesque Revival structure that was completed in 1917 and bears witness to the optimism in display by the grand public buildings of the province’s early history. Its interior has undergone remarkable redecorations and revisions that reflect the changing aesthetic sensibilities of the twentieth century art world. The east and west stained-glass Altar windows are examples of early twentieth century art. Over forty other stained-glass windows are by mid-century French artisan Andre Rault. In its early days, the south wall of the Apse of the Church had a fresco of Mary as Queen of Heaven (Regina Caeli) but, because of poor materials used in its creation, it decayed. In its stead is a contemporary piece, a ceramic mural by the late Saskatchewan artist Lorraine Malach. The McGuigan Casavant pipe organ, considered one of the best in Western Canada, was installed in 1930 and was completed renewed and rededicated in 1993. Holy Rosary Cathedral Tours are available on Fridays from 10am to noon, or by appointment at (306)565-0909. Admission is by donation to the Cathedral Restorat
